Test of Faith
'Test of Faith' Project
On 3rd July 2009 a new series of materials from The Faraday Institute was published by Paternoster Press. These resources are designed primarily for churches and other groups of people who are interested in discussing science and faith in an informal setting. Further details for this project can be found on the project website, www.testoffaith.com, and the materials can be ordered in Australia through Koorong and Word Bookstore, or directly from the UK via the Authentic Media website.
ISCAST Test of FAITH Resources
ISCAST maintains an informal list of Test of FAITH courses, presentations and discussion groups that are being run within Australia through our Test of FAITH Australia Google Group. The group also includes local contacts and calendars for each state. If you are interested in participating in a course, or running one, please visit the Group!
The Test of Faith project includes a comprehensive new website, which contains accessible materials on science and Christianity for churches and others who are interested in these issues.
The relationship between science and faith is often represented as a battleground. The claim is that science has pushed God into the margins. But is the truth more complex? Talking to leading scientist-believers, we probe the issues at the heart of this debate. Has science really murdered God? Or is the God question being redefined in new ways by science? Does the possibility of a Creator remain an ineradicable challenge?
The 'Test of Faith' film is a three-part documentary which recently won Silver in the category Best Documentary in the 2009 IVCA (International Visual Communication Association) Awards. The DVD contains extensive bonus features and material on the science / faith interface that is designed to be relevant and accessible for churches, with contributions and extended interviews from leading scientists and theologians.
The 'Test of Faith' short book brings together further stories from several of the scientists featured in the film, sharing more about their lives as researchers at the cutting edge of science. These men and women from all over the world have thought deeply about how their Christian faith affects the way they practise or relate to science. Key issues covered in the book include:
* What difference does it make to be a Christian in science?
* What are the live issues in science?
* What can we learn from their journeys in science and faith?
The book includes contributions from Dr Francis Collins, Prof. Alister McGrath, Dr Ard Louis, Dr Jennifer Wiseman, Prof. Bill Newsome, Rev. Dr. John Polkinghorne, Rev Dr Alisdair Coles, Dr Deborah B. Haarsma, Prof. Rosalind Picard, Prof. John Bryant.
