2009 “ALBERT EINSTEIN” World Award of Science
The 2009 “ALBERT EINSTEIN” World Award of Science will be presented to Professor Sir John Houghton, President of the John Ray Initiative. Sir Houghton was President of the Royal Meteorological Society from 1976 until 1978.
Sir Houghton, who is an Honorary Member of the Royal Meteorological Society, played a pivotal role in the global research community, through his pioneering work on the remote sensing of the atmosphere from space, his leadership in climate research and monitoring, and his concern for the broader impact of climate on energy, transport and public well-being, not to mention his leading role as chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
