Cox Topham Lunch - Smith Lecture
This lecture will be held on Thursday 30th September, 2010 at the State Library of Victoria. It is ideal for inviting work colleagues, family and friends who may be sophisticated 'objectors' to the Christian faith.
The lecture series began in Sydney ten years ago and has since been held in Perth and Brisbane. Last year's speaker was Prof Ian Harper and previous speakers have included Prof Alister McGrath and Prof John Lennox from Oxford.
The 2010 lecture will be delivered by Prof Edwin Judge, one of our country's foremost intellectuals. Edwin was professor of history in the field of ancient history at Macquarie University. The lecture is titled: "The Future of Truth - the paradox of private faith and public reality". The topic is particularly timely given the recent debate about the appropriateness of political leaders bringing their faith (or lack of faith) into the public arena.
The lecture is organised by City Bible Forum, a national ministry to city workers. It is promoted in a relational manner by recruiting and training 'hosts' who invite guests. The organisers aim for 80% of the audience to be unbelievers. It is encouraged that hosts arrange dinner with their guests after the lecture to carry on the dialogue.
